HELP SAVE BIRDS - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) wants to kill 300 double-crested cormorant birds in May and June, and thousands over a period of time. This is their way of "saving" the smallmouth bass, a trophy game fish for recreational anglers and charter boat owners. Please tell the governor that you do not approve of the killing of birds to save fish for people to kill. Ask him to implement a ban on fishing in the area instead to help the fish build up their numbers. gov.pataki@chamber.state.ny.us
STOP THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND'S CRUEL AND UNNECESSARY TESTS - Your help is urgently needed to stop an outrageous US government proposal that would result in the suffering and death of 750,000 animals.The proposal is the Environmental Protection Agency's High Production Volume (HPV) test plan, which would require the testing of nearly 3,000 chemicals on animals. This plan is being pushed by Vice President Al Gore, in conjunction with the Environmental Defense Fund, and being marketed as a great environmental initiative. In reality, it is a meaningless program that will not result in the withdrawal of harmful chemicals from our environment. The HPV program has been pushed through with little public input. It would require the testing of chemicals, such as carbon tetrachloride, which are well known to be harmful to humans and animals.In devising this program, the EPA has ignored existing safety data - both human and animal - and has failed to incorporate modern alternative animal tests into its protocols. This means that nearly a million animals will die in meaningless tests that will do nothing to improve our environment. Please contact:vicepresident@whitehouse.gov
No Free Money to Pig Killers - For some damn odd reason, Vice President Al Gore, who likes to publish books portraying himself as an environmentalist (haha), has allocated $50 million for pig farmers. Pig farmers have lost a lot of money this year, so he's using our money to help them out. Talk about bullshit. Email him at vice.president@whitehouse.gov and tell him to STOP using our money to help out pig farmers - instead use it for activities that promote peace & compassion, not an industry that causes tremendous suffering for others. Boycott Washington Apples - The Makah Whale Hunt is going to happen unless more action is taken. This isn't about race or tribes - it's about protecting the rights of whales who do not deserve to be shot and killed by anyone, regardless of religious, race, or tribal issues. DEMAND TEXAS TECH TO STOP FIRE ANT TESTS - Scientists at Texas Tech are forcing animals to give birth inside pens swarming with fire ants to see how it effects animals' birth rates.
